INSURANCE NOT CANCELLED

I MR S NAGAN, went into the branch to pay up my house and to have nothing to do with the bank anymore.
After I had paid the money I was told everything is ok and my house is now paid up ..after 10 years I get a call from absa saying that I need to pay a amount of R20000.i then went into the branch and spoke to a consultant about this money owing, i was told that the insurance was not cancelled and the insurance instalment was being taking out from the bound account. I am a pensioner and cannot afford that money or my house being taken away..so please can HELLO PETER help me solve this issue, I think its the bank's responsibility to have cancelled the insurance or alternatively to have informed me that the insurance premium was still being deducted from MY HOME LOAN ACCOUNT that to my knowledge WAS CLOSED.
