Outsurance
Divorced at 48 makes you reckless and a high risk

Business & Finance

I called Outsurance who I have been with for numerous years to add another vehice to my existing insurance. My husband whom I was married to for 20 years and still lived together for another 8 years had recently passed away. Never before has Outsurance questioned my marital status when updating my insurance details. This time they did and I mentioned that I was divorced. To my surprise my car insurance increased by an additional R200. When questioning this I was told that I am a higher risk due to the fact that I am now single (at the age of 48). The explanation given by the supervisor after insisting to talk to one was that married people tend to stay home more often and now that I am single or widowed for that matter are at a higher risk of being out and about on the streets/town. They were very apologetic about the rediculous policy of the company, but was told that is how it is. I cancelled my car policy but still kept my other vehicles with outsurance. I am browsing for another insurance company for cover of the existing items. So much for bending over backwards as their adverts depict.
