Genuine claims... and you get ripped off

I recently claimed for a fleece jacket I lost on a trip. It was a R450 jacket, so I felt that warranted a claim. One item that I requested a pay out for... the excess on that item is R350... I refuse to be untruthful in my claim, and would not put in for more than what I was due. But something like this forces one to claim for more than they actually lost in order to purchase the item again. I had paid R900 for this cover as it is... so to be hit with an excess of R350 on one item... I feel so cheated...
I have taken out Travel insurance before and have not claimed on it, as there was no need.
When you really need the support of a pay out, you don't get it...
I request that I receive a pay out for the full R450 for the value of the item. I paid that 2 years ago, it is actually more expense than that, but that was the value of the item when I purchased it...
