Car was not insured when I had been told it was

On 16/7/13 I phoned Outsurance to get a quote for my new car that was still on the dealership floor. The service was good and operators were very friendly. They had the best premium and I took my insurance from them. My cover was set to start on 17/7. I gave my bank details and I was assured that everything was set. On the 17/7, I phoned Outsurance again when I was at the dealer, the operator assured me that my car is covered and that I could safely drive it off the dealership floor. Later that week I obtained my documents from outsurance. When studying them on 23/07, I noticed that my account number was incorrect. I contacted Outsurance to enquire and they found that there was a digit missing. I was then asked if I would like my cover to start on 24/07. I told them that it should have been covered from 17/07 and I was told that my car was not yet covered (most likely due to the incorrectly captured acc. no.). I asked if they could cover it immediately (on 23/7) but was told it could only be covered on 24/7. I had driven my car for 1 week assuming that it was covered, and Outsurance never contacted me to tell me that there was a problem, instead they left my car uninsured.
