Initiation fee

Please help me understand, why do I need to pay an initiation fee of about R5.700 once off when getting a home loan account? for what good reason... I will be paying a service fee every month anyways. I honestly do not understand banking, its like they are seeing me as stupid and they can take my money because they have the means, facilities and agreements with credit buearue and property companies.
