First National Bank
Unfair Treatment

Business & Finance

My wife has FNB credit card for which she pays monthly. A year ago she called FNB to arrange for premiums to be deducted via debit order. She was informed that going forward premiums will be deducted from her ABSA account. Unfortunately FNB failed to create a debit order facility and my wife was expected to go to an FNB branch to make a payment. On Sunday she received an sms notifying her of outstanding amount, and this morning she was informed that section 129 letter has been sent to her!! For someone who tried time and time again for premiums to be deducted via debit order that is UNFAIR AND UNFORTUNATE.

I went to the FNB branch (Centurion) a few months ago to make payment on her behalf and also asked for the remaining balance. I wanted to settle the balance and close the account but I was told they could not give me that information as I was not the account owner even though I had copies of my and wife's ID.

She never refused or dodged making payment. It's a pain to go the bank in order to make payment. It is very unfair and unfortunate that section 129 letter has been sent. However we are glad that we postponed the decision to move our accounts to FNB.
