I've been paying the Old Mutual funeral policy for more than two years. After the registration, I recieved the funeral policy contract which stated that the funeral payout would be R10 000. The contract I recieved contained errors with regards to my mother in-laws date of birth. I went back to Old Mutual three times with the contract, to fix the date of birth error. The third time I went, I was told that the error had been fixed and that everything within was fine. Two weeks ago, my mother in-law passed away. I then went to Old Mutual a day after her death to claim the payout which was supposed to be R10 000 according to the contract. I was then informed that the payout had been reduced to R5000, half of what the contract stated would be paid out. I was never informed that the claim within the contract would be reduced because of my mother in-laws age, I only found out when I went to claim. According to the contract, payouts are supposed to be recieved within 48hours, however that wasn't the case for me. I waited for more that 4days for the money to be deposited in my account and even then, it was half of the R10 000 within the contract. The pain they caused me was unbearable.
