No Notification prior to your card's expiry date

I went to the store (05/06/13) wanted to pay with my cheque card. It said declined several times. I then went to a near by ATM to draw money and got a slip that said 'We can not process your request to a technical problem. Please try again later' . I checked my card and saw 5/13 at the expiry. I tried to call the custormer centers but couldn't get through. I am upset because no one informed me before the time that I won't be able to use my card or where I may collect my new card and now i can't get ahold of them either. Now i have to wait till they decide to call me or send a letter to collect my new card before i can do any transactions.
