Driving on Cape Town's flooded roads on Sun 2 June one of my wheels fell into a ditch that was covered by flood waters. Car was heavily tipped to one end. I immediately called roadside assistance. The 1st person to answer took my details & put me on hold for a full 5 min without coming back to the line. I redialled, was answered by another person who took delight in taking all sorts of details incl the colour of my car even after establishing car reg, mobile number, name, ID etc & knowing full well I had an emergency! After satisfying herself that I indeed needed assistance she took me through minutes of establishing whether i was calling because of an accident or whether i was just calling to get my car "recovered" as she put it! by this time the water was making its way into the body of the car but she wasnt the least bothered! Finally I was told that I would receive 3 SMS's that would confirm for me what action was being taken. Noticing that I was running risk of greater damage I had some good Samaritans pull me out and then called to cancel my request for assistance to which I was told by the 3rd person that yes I could cancel because no assistance had been dispatched yet!!!
