Standard Bank
Stressful time made worse

Business & Finance

My father passed away in January. I had a funeral policy that was being paid from my account on which my father was the main member. When I went to standard bank to submit a claim I was told my father is not covered by the policy, only my mother and siblings are covered. I asked if it was possible for the main member on the policy to not be covered and I was told by one of your consultants. It didn't make sense to me but what could I do? Needless to say I had just lost my father, to be told such news was very stressful. I had to take out a loan so I could pay for funeral expenses, Now I'm in more debt also and loans charge interest as you very well know. I tried calling customer care at that time but after being transferred from one department to another I gave up eventually. No a few months later I called again, like I said the whole thing did not make sense to me. How can I take out a policy that covers only my mother and leave out my father? When i called I was told my father is covered. I have now submitted a claim at last but i am not impressed with what happened. I think you need to train your staff better than that.
