Groupon dishonours paid for order after 10 weeks!

I ordered and paid for 2 Easycap VHS to DVD converters for Christmas gifts on 15 November 2012 - delivery can take up to 4 weeks. Nothing arrived during this period. When 4 weeks had passed I contacted Groupon to be told that the 4 weeks only started when the dealer took over the order (23 November) and that the delivery would take place within 4 weeks of that date. Still nothing arrived. For Christmas I lamely handed over Groupon Vouchers! and December passed. In the first week of January I emailed Groupon with yet another query - no response whatsoever. They emailed me last week about whether I had had good or bad customer service re my query - I answered BAD, with an explanation as to why. Yet again - no response. This morning in desperation I got into a phone queue of 31 people to Groupon (Joburg to Cape Town) and after waiting an eternity, was told that there was no stock available and that I would receive a refund. I find this totally unacceptable. Had they communicated this to me before Christmas in response to one of my many emails, I could have bought an alternate gift. I now have to try and source a new gift at far greater cost. Their Customer Service is shocking!
