I caught the greyhound bus from Cape Town CBD and just as I had checked in a guy grabbed 1of my bags off the scale and the lady behind the desk told him to be careful as there were fragile goods in the bag. He then swiftly walked off and my partner told him not to carry the goods which he ignored and continued way ahead whilst leaving us with the other 5bags and surfboard! He then dropped the goods and expected a tip never mind that he was not wanted in the first place. This ended up in me losing a little digital olympus camera!
Then to make matters worse the bus had no fresh air flowing in and for 9hrs we sat breathing in each others carbon dioxide whilst the condensation was dripping off the windows.
I have traveled many of South Africas multitude of buses but chose to use Greyhound cos as it costs a good deal more you expect a better level of service and when one of your desk ladies tells an un-official porter to "be carefull, it is fragile goods" rather than telling him off I cant help but be furious as it ended in me losing a camera! The least you could do is have some security for the desk area telling these "chancers" off!
