Poor maintenance of equipment on board

I flew with SAA to Perth on the 14th of September, flight 280. After take off and wanting to enjoy the on board entertainment, I discovered that the remote for the on board entertainment was faulty and as such could not select let alone watch anything. The lady sitting next to me, had a similar problem in that the headphone jack could not be inserted.

I had to call a member of the cabin crew as no one was responding to the cabin crew light that had been on for 45 minutes. When I finally went and found a crew member, I was told they would address the situation after serving drinks. This took roughly another 45 mins to an hour before returning to me. The staff member then proceeded to reboot the system, clearly not understanding that the faults and defects were physical faults due to poor care and maintenance.

It was only 4 hours into the flight when the cabin crew member was able to get the supervisor from business class to come and assist me. But which time, the supervisor could only suggest moving me and the passenger next to me to alternative seats.By this time, having to move our hand luggage and find another seat was the last thing I felt like doing.
