Billed incorrectly over a "Free" service

Got in touch with Telkom last year over the 3 months free ADSL line they were offering. It was installed and it never worked consistently fine, connection kept on dropping. Reported this but nothing much was done. At the end of the 3 months I called wanting to cancel the service because I not satisfied with the service at all. I was later told that I had to pay -R500 for the line rental. I was shocked at this because they had initially told me it was a free service for the 3 months. I was prepared to pay for the calls I had made on the line but shortly after that I received two separate bills from Telkom. One came at the end of January saying I was owing over R1000 and the most recent one says I over R2000. I'm not really how they came up to these figures since I cancelled everything with Telkom at the beginning of January.

The service I have received from them is really appalling to say the least.
