Cant get firmware update problem resolved

I have been trying for days to get hold of someone either from mtn (Im using a MTN 3G modem for internet) or Virgin Mobile (My Service provider) to give me some support regarding my dowload error. I recently lost my cellphone, and got a 2nd hand Blackberry 8520 but the software need to be upgraded. I followed all the possible steps/software to do this, however i still get Failed to download software, check your internet connection, or try later.. My internet connection is perfect. The new software update starts downloading, but stops after about 50-60% complete, and i have to try again. I have been trying for weeks noe, and cant get any help from nobody regarding this error. Its impossible to contact blackberry direct, and the service providers dont care. Everytime i get transferred from one operator to the other, and eventually the call gets cut. I am fed up with bad service like this. All I need to do is a plain and simple procedure/upgrade, yet its totally impossible.
