Samsung S3 is water damaged without touching wate

Telecommunications

My Samsung S3 is a year old and suddenly switched off one morning. It was completely dead. I took it to Vodacom in Greenpoint to be repaired. Upon arrival, the consultant immediately said "Your phone might be irrepairable' How is this possible? No disrespect but she isn't a technician and she didn't even know what the problem was.
The phone was sent away. A day later I got a phone call saying that the phone would be repaired at a cost of R542.00. I agreed to amount and they proceeded. After two weeks, I heard from no one and decided to follow up. After speaking to a consultant they told me that my phone was irreparable due to water damage. I would LOVE to know how in the world it could be water damaged when it came no where NEAR any water. It has a cover and I looked after it really well. How could Vodacom first of all: Quote me on repairs if it was water damaged (if a phone is water damaged the person repairing it would be able to tell immediately). If it was water damaged, why did they wait a whole two weeks to tell me. I know why - When I took my phone to a second party to have a look, they refused to fix it due to bad workmanship. I am considering switching service providers.
