My phone is not water damage

I entrusted my iPhone to vodacom for repairs because the battery was getting extremely hot when I use the phone, it has been doing this since I got the phone. It was not as bad in the beginning but has been getting progressively worse. I decided to have it resolved as I have only had this phone for four months or so. The phone is practically brand new. I am told that I have to pay for the repairs as the phone has been water damaged and the warranty has been voided. The tech hasn't even opened the phone up yet. I cannot explain the change in the indicator but my phone has not even seen water. how do we know that the moisture in the air did not react with the indicator (that we are basing all our decisions on right now). It is not fair that the consumer is told that his phone is water damaged and he has no choice but to accept it, I must accept that I have to cough up a significant amount of money to repair a faulty phone because an indicator says so. This indicator is wrong. I have checked the indicator of other iphones in the office and guess what.. all their indicators are red yet they are working perfectly and have never been dipped in water. I am unhappy with this assessment.
