I received a very strongly worded letter from a debt collector advising I'd been "handed over" by Vodacom, that I'd been blacklisted with the credit bureaus and I needed to pay the -R1, 500 owed to Voda to clear my name. Long-story-short:
- I was not in arrears
- I had to fight hard and threaten legal action to get a reasonable person (at the debt collecting co) to hear me out. (Vodacom Legal was spectacularly useless in this regard)
- It was determined and proven that Voda was in error (I had emails from 4 years ago to support how they originally messed up).

To date I have not had:
- a letter retracting the letter of demand or advising the blacklist has been reversed (and yes, they'll probably tell me now the blacklisting was a threat and not followed thru. That's not what the letter said!)
- a letter of apology or explanation
All I have is a fwd of an email from Vodacom to the debt collector saying ". account handed over in error." That's it!!

I regard Vodacom Legal's actions as tardy, reckless, negligent and - without any explanation, apology or personal contact - tantamount to attempted extortion.
