THIS IS HARASSMENT

Goodday,

I would like to report harassment by JM Attorneys on a debt that has prescribed (and that in fact never existed) years ago.

In 2000, Leisurenet was liquidated. In about 2001, I received a letter from JM Attorneys advising that they would be collecting debt on behalf of Leisurenet, and that I owed some R350 for the remainder of a gym contract at Health and Racquet. I responded to the first letter advising that I did not owe the money, and that they should provide me with a statement showing the details of the said debt. No such statement was forthcoming - instead for about 6 - 7 years after that, I received 1 letter a month - the content of which became steadily more aggressive- they would institute a garnishee on my salary; they will be attaching my property etc - all these threats were empty though. The amount on the debt has also since been increasing due to legal and interest charges. It probably sits at close to R2000 now. After receiving no response from JM Attorneys after responding to their first 2 or 3 letters, I sought legal advice, and was advised to simply ignore the letters - which I did.
