Horrendous bills in spite of contract cancellation

I cancelled the Virgin Mobile contracts for myself and my daughter in Feb 2013 (our contracts were due to expire in March 2013). We received a confirmation email and were waiting for the calls and usage to be stopped. Nothing happened. After about 6 weeks, I re-checked my confirmation email and saw that the contracts had been cancelled according to their and my records, yet we were still able to call and use the phones as always. I emailed the manager who then told me when one cancels the contracts there is an automatic switch to pre-paid billing and you get billed for whatever you use. I have received a bill of nearly R800 in spite of cancellation 2 months ago!! I find that appalling and want to warn everyone trying to cancel an account with Virgin Mobile. In fact, it is best to not even go there! Why can services not be stopped when a cancellation is requested? Why not make clients aware of this ridiculous policy? Just to keep quiet and make some money off clients that leave is unacceptable, in my opinion.
