Vodacom
R256 off my account

Telecommunications

On about 17th March, I made a 10 sec call to my wife to say I was on my way home. Over and above ending the call as normal, I turned off my mobile fully, as I was about to drive home.
Vodacom then logged 1hr 48 mins (R256) against my call, until it ran out of funds (I am an Australian tourist using pre-paid services).
When I found I had no funds, I was told that I must have left my phone on.
Okay, that may have been possible, and I cannot prove otherwise. But I knew my wife did switch off after the call, as she then phoned someone else.
I argued that if my wife switched off, surely this dropped the connection. No, I was told, even if your wife switched off and my phone was still on the meter was still running on my phone. But, I asked, why is Vodacom different to anywhere else in the world? Those are the rules I was told..
Some 20 mins later, I was passing by a Vodacom shop, and asked them the same question. They then said that this was incorrect. If I or my wife had switched off, then either would have dropped the connection, and the meter would have stopped running.
So back to Vodaphone Customer Service. No, I cannot have access to wife's details, unless I laid a charge.
