Removal of WhatsApp from Blackberry services

Telecommunications

MTN have amended the terms of use and no longer offer Blackberry Internet Service. They claim that this has been done to limit unfair usage by a small number of heavy users. This is fair enough.

However, in the small print, they also note that only blackberry apps will be part of the new blackberry service plans. In particular, they note that WhatsApp, which allows customers to communicate across devices, will no longer be included in the normal service plan and will instead be charged for separately as data usage.
This is NOT consistent with the reason given by MTN for amending how blackberry internet is made available to clients, and appears simply to be a way to gouge more money from clients who already pay a considerable amount to be connected, and who would like to communicate across different platforms and phone types.

I would appreciate an explanation of how this is a fair practice which gives good service to customers rather than simply profiteering...
