Very bad service from MTN

I took out a data contract in August 2012. The modem arrived but due to bad coverage did not work - no 3G and edge ridiculous slow. I spoke to the Area coverage consultant telephonically from the MTN SP desk in Beaufort West. The bad coverage was confirmed. I cancelled and signed the subscriber cancellation form and handed in at the mtn desk and returned the device and sim. The person, Ryno, indicated that he will cancel the service. I handed the modem and sim card back - in its original package to the MTNSP in Beaufort West. Several follows ups at the SP, and the contract is not cancelled yet and two deductions made from my bank account, regardless the fact that I cancelled the contract within 10 days of receiving the modem and sim (the sim was also barred and the device could not be checked for 5 days as they battled to unbar the number). The service still shows "active" but the SP indicated that everything is cancelled and sent through for process and I will receive and refund. Now I keep on receiving oustanding accounts and threats of legal actions if i dont pay. I did not receive any service but they expect me to pay. No one seems to be willing to sort out he problem.
