Are contracts not binding anymore?

Telecommunications

I took out a laptop contract with MTN last year in July. Everything was good for the first couple of months- I paid my account on time, service was great etc. Then in December (2012), I was unable to connect to the internet for close to 3 weeks. After endless phone calls to MTN [none of which ever yielded results] and finally a trip to one of their stores, the issue was resolved. Now, the contract I have with MTN stipulates that my account will be debited for the outstanding amount on a monthly basis [on the first day of the month]. My payment for December's balance due was only collected on or about the 5th of January. When I queried this I was spun a lukewarm explanation of how accounts are collected on the first business day of the month. Now if this is the case, MTN, kindly explain why 4 days into the new month, with the first business day of the month having been Friday 01 March, you have not collected your payment? This is the second time this has happened. If it happens that I have an unforeseen expense that renders me unable to fulfil my financial obligation to MTN, am I in the wrong if MTN cannot keep up their end of our contract?

Sort your collections department out.
