I was hesitant to switch over from MTN as I've had the same number for the past 14 years and I need it to stay the same seeing as my clients know my telephone number by now.

I was told in store that I should go ahead and start up a contract even though the number was not yet released by MTN, and that I could come in at any time once my number was released to port the old MTN number to this new contract.

I went back to the menlyn branch a week ago where I was first told that this is impossible. I was then told that this might be possible but I will have to pay a fee, which I am fine with. I then ported my number to a cell c pay as you go simcard and was told a manager/ senior agent will have a look at my case and get back to me the next day.

It is a week later and haven't heard anything from Cell C yet.

I am very happy with overall service at Cell C, but the service at Menlyn branch is horrid, except when they want to sign you up for the initial contract. I've either been to from the start just to get the initial sale, or the employees at the Menlyn branch are frightfully unaware of the number porting possibilities.

I really need to get this sorted as soon as possible.
