Pathetic ADSL speeds

I have been informed by Telkom that the ABSOLUTE FASTEST ADSL speed that they can give me is 0.5 Mbps. That can barely be classed as broadband! This is due to the poor quality of line infrastructure in my area - I live in Parkhurst. How on earth in 2013 in the middle of Joburg can Telkom claim not to be able to provide a fast, reliable ADSL service?! They have press releases about rolling out 40Mbps "VDSL" in Benmore yet can't even provide 1 Mbps in Parkhurst! Apparently the only way to solve this would be to dig up the aged lines and replace. My line attenuation is 63.5 db - only good for a 384kbps service!
I have signed up to Neotel and anxiously await it's installation. If it works, Telkom has lost another customer for life!
