I took my cell into Cresta Repairs on 21st Dec 2012 as suddenly a message "no service", appeared and the phone ceased to work.
It went back to H/O 3 times, with the assurance it would be forwarded to Samsung for a confirmed diagnosis. I collected it on the 5th Feb, with the same excuse for the 3rd time " Liquid Damage on PCB" and "Beyond Economical Repairs". I personally knew that this phone had not been subjected to liquid in any form. I had deliberately upgraded my two year contract in Mar 2012 to qualify for this phone, and forfeited my landline to pay the monthly subs. I desperately needed a phone with a screen large enough to see, especially in an emergency. I am 61 and my eyesight has deteriorated.
That same afternoon I went to a Samsung Repair Centre. On referral and while waiting, my phone was repaired within an hour - it had not been corroded by liquid damage. I paid R1 200. This despite the phone still being under Vodacom warranty. It seems that if they quote "liquid damage" the warranty is not valid: very conveniently the most difficult reason to prove otherwise. But who cares? Perhaps another Service Provider when my current Vodacom contract expires
