Cannot exchange cellphone for different model

Telecommunications

I upgraded my cell contract on 10 Feb 2013 and I took the SAMSUNG Galaxy Ace Advance as recommended by the sales person (Bruce) as the monthly cost was less than the usual contract. I was told as usual "If you are not happy with the phone, return it in the original packaging etc within 7 days". On Thursday 14 Feb 2013 The phone stopped working for about 2-3 hours, I could not make calls or send a message and It still had a full signal. I then returned the phone to Kolonade to get it swapped out. I explained that I was also not happy with the overall performance of the handset and would like to exchange it for something else, even if it would cost me more. I was ONLY THEN told that they do not exchange phones. The phone has to be tested, and if it is faulty, I would get another phone EXACTLY the same as the one I do not want. I then asked to cancel my contract, and the salesperson told me (with attitude) that it would only cost me money and I can wait for the phone to be checked or fixed. If I knew I would not be allowed to exchange my phone, I would have taken something else instead. Vodacom, Vodacare and Vodacom cancellations told me they would exchange it. This is unacceptable.
