18 Dec. I cancel my contract with MTN effective 30 Jan (more than the 30 days they require). I get confirmation that it will be cancelled. 15 Jan. I check in at Century City that the cancellation will happen, nothing was recorded. 25 Jan. I get a bill from MTN for the debit order that will go off. 28 Jan. I speak to Dawid at Century City, provide all the details in writing, and he promised to get back to me. Never did. Early Feb. My mother, who was given my phone and SIM that was meant to have been cancelled, gets phone calls and SMSes meant for me. Now my privacy is compromised too! 10 Feb. I phone MTN help line and explain the problem. I'm told to please phone later, they cannot help me. MTN was my cellphone provider for almost 20 years, but in the last year they've gone downhill faster than an avalanche. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO GET MY ACCOUNT CLOSED? WILL ANY MONEY TAKEN FROM ME FOR ANYTHING AFTER 30 JAN BE PAID BACK, AND WHEN? HOW WILL MY TIME AND EFFORT TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE BE COMPENSATED? MOST IMPORTANTLY, HOW WILL MY COMPROMISED RIGHT TO PRIVACY BE RESTORED?
