Trying to cancel contract will cost almost R1, 000

My contract was expiring on 20 December 2013, so on 2 November 2013, I duly wrote a letter cancelling the contract. I was then told that I did not need the letter, by some character called Katleho in their call centre, and that the account would automatically be cancelled on 20 December. Now there is no record of this call on at the call centre... funny, that.

Well, not only is the number still active, I have been billed beyond 20 December, and will continue to be billed until 1 March, when the contract is officially cancelled (I had to actually switch to prepaid to have it happen quickly - as if I would EVER use any MTN product ever again!!!).

Customer service is clearly an alien concept for MTN - and additionally the staff in retail stores have NO IDEA how to deal with cancellations... and for that matter, apparently nor do call centre staff.
