Paying for something I don't have

Telecommunications

My 5month old S4 had a faulty battery. I returned my phone to the Plett branch on the 17 Dec 2013 with all the items and parts complete in its box as I was told that it would be replaced by a new phone. It has been a month & 3days since then only to be told that my phone had been dropped on the side and can not be replaced. The reason I handed the phoned in was due to the battery swelling & getting very very hot when charging and not lasting very long. I confirmed that this is a S4 battery fault. When i handed the phone in on the 17th Dec it was inspected and a report on its condition was written by Reges (the manager) of which I have a copy. It stated only a few light scratches were visible on the back cover. At no stage was the phone dropped by me or did it have that type of damage. I have not have had my phone for over a month I can not see how I could be responsible for this sudden damage. I have made numerous calls trying to find out what they will be doing about it but neither the store or the MTN repair wants to take responsibility. I am sick and tired of their excuses with the latest being that they will fix the dropped phone and I have to except this. What should I do?
