Cannot book in 2 month old phone for repair

I did an upgrade in November 2013 at the Telkom store in Middelburg Mall. The phone, a Samsung Galaxy S3, now does not charge and the store says that they cannot book the phone in without the receipt of the upgrade. I find this totally unacceptable as I feel that they have all the details in computer and none of the other networks expect you to bring in your original upgrade receipt to book in a phone for repair.
