Mtn
Termination of contract after 2 yr period

Telecommunications

I have a data contract which expires on 07 February this year. As I am travelling out of the country from tomorrow, I attempted to advise MTN that I would like to terminate the contract at the end of the period.

I spent 3 days trying to reach the customer service number (808) and speak to a consultant, but after reaching the call centre and waiting for various lengths of time, the call is cutoff before you actiually get to speak to somebody.

I then went to MTN in Sandton City and was told that unless I cancelled on the exact date, there is an early cancelation fee of R 2417.88. As there is only 1 month debit order due, I asked that they just accept my intention not to renew after that, but was told this is not possible and can only be done telephonically!

I tried yet again to reach them without success, so tried a second time to speak to somebody at the Menlyn branch. After waiting for 40 minutes, I gave up.

I have now sent an email to the customerservices department explaining that this is NOT an early cancellation, but an attempt to give the required 30 day notice that I do not wish to continue on a month to month basis.
