Vodacom
Appalling customer loyalty

Telecommunications

After being a loyal Vodacom customer for 7 years I leave the country for 6 months only to be told on my return that my number had been given to someone else. The reason being that my number had been inactive for 90 days. Fair and fine but if a customer has been with you for SEVEN years the least you can do is contact them and notify them of such proceedings. Not only have they inconvenienced me but they have also inconvenienced the person who they gave my number to and who can not use WhatsApp with this number while it is still registered on my phone with the same number. Not only is this terrible service but they're also basically saying that they don't cater to occasional visitors to South Africa and residents that may be gone for more than 90 days at a time, on business for example. I have a sim card from a cellphone company in another country I frequently visit and even after 12 months my number will still be active on my return. That for me is much better business than discarding customers like their loyalty and MONEY doesn't matter. I'll be sure to share this revelation about Vodacom with anyone that'll listen, particularly fellow travellers.
