Causes blue screen of death

I have a Huawei Model E 1820. When it is plugged in, my computer (Windows XP) often crashes and gives me a blue screen of death. It only happens when the modem is plugged in, and never when it's not; also, I have Googled and I see I am not the only person with this complaint with this modem; it happens to other people too. I cannot find a software upgrade anywhere to fix this problem. How can a company sell modems to people that causes their computers to crash all the time? It's terrible.
