I was due for an upgrade on my MTN contract and wanted to get the HTC One. MTN could not help me get one at the time, but Vodacom could, which I was delighted about. I was of course happy to open a Vodacom account, but since I still had 4 months to see out my MTN contract, I was not able to port my existing number as yet. I specifically asked the sales person if I would be able to port the number onto this Vodacom contract once the MTN one expires. I was told that this was possible, and I confirmed this at least 3 times with him on the day. So I opened the Vodacom account, much to the sales person's delight. About 4 weeks ago, I went to handle the porting, only to find out that this is now not possible. I have been passed to 3 different people in the process over a month and still cannot get this resolved. Today I was told that I will have to pay 75% of the contract to cancel the account, which is completely unacceptable, given that I was advised by the sales person to follow this route. So he got his sale, passed the buck to his manager and then to another manager... and I am stuck with two contracts... that I have to pay! Can it be that hard to simply have a number changed?!!!
