Vodacom
Unreasonable porting conditions (6 month wait)

Telecommunications

Hello,

I am currently investigating to port a cell phone number from Vodacom to Telkom mobile.

We talked to Vodacom to stop the contract and hear what is needed in order to port the existing number.

Vodacom told us that we should give one month notice to stop the contract, which is fine, but then they also said that the number will only be portable once 6 moths has passed after the contract is terminated. This means that the number must be switched to pay as you go (which is very expensive) for 6 months before the number may be ported to Telkom mobile.

My question is this:

Is it lawful to set up such unreasonable conditions for number porting?

In my eyes it forces the customer to stay with Vodacom if the customer chooses to keep their number.
