I feel robbed

I took a 24 month contract and i was not made aware that there are 12 month one.when i called to convert to 12 month they refused.when i requested to cancel they said its going to cost me a fortune. is this how cell c treat their customers every time? how am i going to go back to them with such bad service they providing. i am frustrated as i believe i wont be able to afford to pay it from mid 2014. please anyone help me
