I got a phone call that unusual high usage is being recorded on 1 of my numbers. After going through 4 departments, it was found that an open phone sim card which I was NOT using, was being used in an unknown modem to download various things form the Internet and Skype. I DONT EVEN HAVE SKYPE. The bill is R41000! Vodacom said they will convert the bill into megs and I need to pay R6000. Vodacom also said the following (luckily recorded) 1. They can see/know it was not me. (Probably because I've been a loyal client for 6 years and they can trace everything I do). 2. The person who has the modem is liable for the account - but they can not trace the person - so I have to pay. If they can not trace the person why do you have to present your ID and proof of residence when purchasing a sim / modem? 3. I said that I am going to contact my lawyer - and I WAS TOLD LAWYERS ARE EXPENSIVE. I WAS "ADVISED" AGAINST MY CONSTITUTIONAL / CONSUMER RIGHTS! I did contact my lawyer - he is ready and waiting. I can"t believe that Vodacom TELLS me they can see it wasn't me but I have to pay? I don't even use up my 3gig per month. So I have to pay for corruption - WHICH VODACOM ADMITTED it was.
