How difficult is it to get ADSL in the City

I have recently decided to sign up for Telkom's Simple plus deal, at the end of the call it was relayed to me that the process might take up to two weeks. about a week later l got got a SMS telling me there is insufficient infrastructure in my area. I phoned Telkom and asked them to confirm this, surely it must be a mistake? I live in Weltevreden Park, Roodepoort right in the middle of South Africa's economic hub and Telkom can't provide me with service or infrastructure. The person I spoke told me that my request would be elevated and the they will get back to me, this was more than a month ago and still no feedback. I heard from my land lord that various requests for ADSL lines have been made by residents in the same complex and I know about at least one other unit currently applying for ADSL lines - all to no avail. It feels to me like Telkom doesn't really care about delivering a service since they have the monopoly! What other choice do we have?? They seem to only cater to their customers when it is comfortable for them to do so. How I do I ever sign up with a company that cares this little about prospective customers in the future. Please tell that I am Mistaken??
