Vodacom requested me to call and confirm if I indeed wanted to do a sim swap. I told the consultant that I did not want to do a sim swap. The consultant assured me that no sim swap will be performed on my number. When I asked her what was happening, she told me that there are who do sim swaps for people and later withdraw all their money from the bank. I told her how frightened I was; but she re-assured me that nothing would happen and that she has blocked sim swap activities on my number. That was on the 18.10.2013.
On 19.10.2013, I found out that my cell phone had no reception. I checked my bank statement on the internet and found out that R 12 airtime was bought and subsequently, R 3000.00 was transferred to one account and R 800 was transferred to another from my bank account. The literally wiped out the money I had left in my account.
I feel that Vodacom was negligent in allowing a sim swap against the promise that they would not do it.
I feel that Vodacom must compensate me me and pay back the money I lost because of their negligence.
Let Vodacom investigate this matter and take remedial action.
