Mtn made me pay for broken goods

Telecommunications

I signed up for a contract for a phone (Sony Ericsson Xperia X10) a few years ago. After 3 months of having the phone it stopped working. I booked in it in and followed procedure. A month later I was called to come collect my phone only to discover this phone was beyond economical repair due to my negligence which is hard to understand as the report showed it was a internal part (motherboard) that had been broken. I then tried to take this matter further but MTN are famous for just passing the buck and not being able to talk to anyone. However I kept getting charged for this phone every month, so I closed the bank account the debit order was coming off as I don't see why I should pay for something I cannot use. Shortly after I stopped paying I started receiving lawyers letters demanding money from me, my grandparents then decided to settle my account as they didn't want me to be black listed. This account had accumulated to R9000. I came across this phone the other day and passed it on to my friend who repairs phones and he told me it would cost R850 to repair back to working condition. I feel like I have been from. I work in the media and intend to write an article about it
