Handset blacklisting

Telecommunications

I was away on the 30/08/2013 with my family to celebrate my wife's birthday. We left our cousin who stays with us at home. On our way back, she was not at home but we found that the house was broken into.

A few items that we could notice then were missing. Some items we noticed as we needed to use that they were missing. Amongst the items that went missing was my Blackberry 9320 which was contracted to Autopage.
I then called Autopage to blacklist the handset. After going through all the security questions that they normally ask. Later in the day I got an sms with my reference number and another sms followed stating that the blacklisting was successful.
I lodged a claim with the insurance after having opened a case at the police station. The insurance came back to tell me that the handset was never blacklisted.
This is 13 days later. I called Autopage again and spoke to a consultant who told me that Autopage cannot blacklist a handset! I must contact Vodacom.
Why did they send me an sms confirming that the blacklisting was successful if they knew they couldn't do it? It now seem to the insurance that I was trying to them. Autopage gave me an impression that all is well.
