Can't migrate to prepaid 'cause they wont answer!

I went down to Liberty Midlands MTN shop and requested to migrate from contract to prepaid because my contract has finished and I am emigrating in 2 weeks. After waiting an hour Sana said it was sorted and would go through in a couple of days. 4 days later I then received a message from Sana saying that she hadnt had any feedback on whether I had been migrated and that I should call 808 to do it myself.
I called 808 this morning and having gone through a full security check was then put through to the cancellations department, which had an engaged signal. I waited 20 mins with the engaged signal and then hung up.
The engaged signal was the same thing that caused me to have to wait an hour at MTN Liberty as Sana couldnt get through either. Is this a tactic by MTN to stop contract customers leaving?
We are now about to click over to a new billing month so I guess MTN will try to bill me again for another month. If I could get through to MTN I'd tell them that it's best they migrate me to prepaid asap as when they try to debit my account next month they will find that my account has been closed.
