Pre-approved... really? And how?

I just received a call from Elite Mobile offering me a "pre approved" Tablet contract. Bear with me Vodacom, Im getting to you.

The sales person was very polite in the end and i refused as politely as i could muster after getting 3 missed calls in 6min from them.

What i want to know is:

1. Why is Vodacom giving out my number to companies who call, sms and pester me? Some of these adds expect ME to spend MY money on an SMS to them asking them to STOP if i don't want to get more 'offers'. Why on EARTH must i do that?

2. As for the "pre-approved' nonsense. We have already established that Vodacom (and most likely all SPs) give out (or most likely Sell for financial gain) our private numbers... but what ELSE do they provide these companies that they can give "pre-approved" offers?!

Where in any of my contracts did i sign that Vodacom is allowed to give out any of my financial details... including details of my contract with them?

This all from a network that has made billions from us, but is too cheap to upgrade its hardware so that its CUSTOMERS cant have a 40sec conversation without a line dropping off!
