Vodacom
Locked into a contract without signing

Telecommunications

In September 2012 I received a call from Vodacom to upgrade my contract. On the call, I opted to upgrade my contract with a 'no-phone-option' to reduce my monthly costs, as I did not need a new phone. I was informed that I would receive a document via email that needed to be signed and submitted to Vodacom to complete the upgrade process. The document was received by me via email but never completed and returned to Vodacom. I was also informed that if I do not sign the document that my contract would continue month to month at the reduced fee because of the 'no-phone-option'. Upon calling Vodacom today, 18 July 2013, to give a months notice of cancelling my contract so that I can move over to pre-paid, I was informed that my contract was in fact upgraded till September 2014 and that I would have to pay a very large sum of money to opt out "prematurely".

All I want to do is have a pre-paid phone because I no longer have an income.
