ADSL account changed without notice/approval

My ADSL service (supposed to be 2mbps) just got as slow as. When I phoned to find out what happened and if I am being throttled, the answer I got was: On the 2nd of July 2013 your account has been downgraded to a 1mbps account but your line speed is still 2mbps. This is stupid and it does not make sense! why pay for a 2mbps line if you can max go to 1mbps?

After the nth time of calling, trying to explain the issues to 6 different people (including the Telkom Direct people (who do not have access to anything and cannot assist, you anyway need to phone from one of their lines!!!), I am told that changes can only be made after month end!

Tomorrow I will cancel my contract and dispute whatever penalties they try to enforce as I am now fed-up for struggling with incompetent people.
