Poor technical product and bad service

Telecommunications

I live in a housing estate which has communications provided exclusively by Smart Village. Unfortunately, they have an effective monopoly and provide bad technical service. I have a 4 Mb line which is consistently running at about 1/10 of that speed.

Attempting to communicate with their call centre people is even worse. I have now been told that i) they don't know what the problem is, or what the solution is and ii) it has been escalated to another part of their company, and they have no idea (verbatim!) when I can expect a response. In addition, when I (all very courteously) pointed out that my emails never received a response and that every time I had to follow up by phone after waiting a day or two, they attempted to transfer the call but actually hung up -- every time!

I suppose there is not much that I (or you, the reader) can do if Smart Village is the only service provider but if you ever have the option, don't be fooled by their name, they are far from smart and I recommend any alternative, even Telkom.
