Cell C
Handling of Change of Ownership and Upgrade

Telecommunications

I went to the Tygervalley Cell C store to do a contract transfer from my mother's to my own name, a long with a contract upgrade.

While the transferal of ownership went smoothly, I was advised to 'upgrade' to a one month contract so that I can come back and upgrade the following month (I was unsure of handset to upgrade to, but was prepared to pay extra for the extra month). I did this, and paid the R150 upgrade fee.

A few days later I went back and I was told that due to the transfer of ownership, I can only upgrade my contract once it runs out in 3 months (the "early upgrade" falls away after the transfer of ownership I was informed). Not only that, but my 1 month 'upgrade' is scheduled to kick in at the end of those 3 months.

Now, not only can I not upgrade in a month like I was told I would be able to, but I have to wait 3 months, then the extra month for my 'upgrade' contract. Now instead of doing what I wanted (or being informed that I don't need a one month upgrade as the transfer means an extra 3 months), I am now R150 (for contract upgrade) and 1 month fee, which "cant be cancelled") out of pocket, a long with having to wait an extra month to upgrade.

Not happy.
