My mum died 3yrs ago - get your records in orde

Telecommunications

In Dec 2012, I got a call from a debt collection company asking for my mum who died in Feb 2010! I asked what this was about and the lady said it was about her Vodacom account. I told her that my mum was dead for almost three years and that in 2011, I had received a call from Vodacom regarding her account. I had informed them of her death. They asked for the death certificate to be sent to them. I spoke to my brother who informed me that this had been done and her account had been settled already. I related this to the lady, who then asked me to send the death certificate AGAIN. I refused, as it had already been sent to Vodacom 3 times. She asked me several times, and I refused. My reasoning is that if they cannot get their records straight and process their paperwork, having had 3 chances, then I am not willing to give them a 4th chance to do so. However, my biggest issue is do you realise how upsetting it is to me to have someone phone me once a year and ask to speak to my DEAD mother? It's extremely disconcerting and very insensitive. Because Vodacom did not have its records straight, they handed over this account to a debt collection co. and I must put up with this unpleasant calls
